A Young Baptist’s Reason to Remain

January 29, 2008

By Ken Williams
The Baptist Standard
Five years ago, while studying at Texas A&M University, I took a job as the youth minister of a small Baptist church in the Conroe area north of Houston. Having been born and raised in a large Bible church, I entered the Baptist world relatively oblivious to the situation I was [...]

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 21, 2008

Today we ‘celebrate’ Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy.  Ethics Daily has a very appropriate column up today by Miguel de la Torre, entitled, “Help Wanted: Black Friend”.  He uses a segment from the Colbert Report to begin a discussion of what it means to have diversity and integration in our churches.
Colbert’s approach to racially and [...]

Young Adults and the Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant

January 9, 2008

I’ve heard some people say that the Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant will be sparsely attended by the “younger” generations- ie, those under 40.  The Celebration is on a Wednesday through Friday, so this is not an unreasonable assumption.  However, the assumption is wrong.
From TBYPN we have over 50 young adults traveling to the [...]

Messy Ecclesiology

December 17, 2007

The following is a blog post from Craig Nash’s blog. on September 17, 2007.  Any of you who grew up Baptist– well, I think you may understand elementally what Craig is writing about.  Part of the purpose of this blog is to disseminate to a wider audience the voice of young Baptists- this is one [...]

Observations on young Baptists

November 30, 2007

As Alexis alerted us of, there has been a good discussion happening on the BGCT blog conerning Ken William’s article which appeared in the Baptist Standard last week. Alexis has asked me to post a version of my comments in that discussion here on the TBYPN blog.
These are my thoughts and observations. [...]

Baptist Unity

November 29, 2007

A comment over at the Texas Baptists blog on the next generation by a young pastor made mention of the fact that our generation has learned more about division than multiplication. And he’s right. But Baptists (who are Christians) should be about the business of multiplying the Kingdom not dividing it. Mitch [...]

Soul Freedom: A Core Baptist Distinctive

November 29, 2007

Another TBYPN member, Aaron Weaver, had an article published in the November-December issue of the Report from the Capital, a publication of the Baptist Joint Committee. In his article he talks about being Baptist, his decision to attend the Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant, and the foundations of soul freedom which allow [...]

WHO ARE WE?

November 27, 2007

I heard once at church, “Well if the young people would just come, it would be a place for young people.” Over and over again the question is where are young adults when it comes to church involvement? Part of the way to answer this might be to look at WHO are the [...]

You’re Not Alone

November 26, 2007

Before I began working on the Texas Baptist Young Professional Network, I felt really alone as a young Baptist. I was committed to being Baptist, but there didn’t seem to be that many other people my age around who felt the same way. Sometimes I felt like I was shouting at the wind- [...]

A Young Baptist’s Reason to Remain

In the Baptist Standard this week, Ken Williams had a piece published on his experience as a young Baptist. Ken is involved with the Texas Baptist Young Professional Network. He is a minister to students in Dripping Springs, Texas. Here is an excerpt:
A Young Baptist’s Reason to Remain
